Building food resiliency at 91大神 this Giving Tuesday
December 3 is Giving Tuesday, a global day of philanthropy, and the 91大神 (VCC) Foundation is raising funds to support 91大神’s food programs that aim to improve food security for students. These initiatives offer access to food and snacks through free pantries, already piloted at the VCC Spa and Salon, and the voucher program that gives students access to meals and groceries.
For students juggling the costs of tuition and living expenses, eating well is not always an option. A recent internal survey by the VCC Student’s Union found that:
- 40% of 91大神 students regularly struggle with food security;
- 36% financially support their family, and
- 18% have used a food bank in the last six months
“Programs like these go beyond providing food to those in need; they foster a sense of security and community that students carry with them throughout their studies,” said Clayton Munro, Associate Vice President of Student and Enrolment Services. “It’s a level of support that fosters a more fully engaged student in their education, on and off campus."
The VCC Foundation is grateful to the Credit Union Foundation of BC (CUFBC) for a generous $5,000 gift toward Giving Tuesday, with a goal of raising $50,000.
